Bill Clinton grew up in Hope, Arkansas. Since high school, he has played the saxaphone. He was elected as Arkansas governor in 1978. The state had a very low education level, and used to be one of the least educated states in the nation Until Bill Clinton became governor of the state in 1979 to 1981 and from 1983 to 1992 changed that problem, and made the state much more educated than it used to be. He instituted educational reforms including basic skill tests to teachers and students. He also kept students in high school by enforcing a law that takes away the dropout’s drivers license. Today, more kids finish high school than any other state in the South because of Bill Clinton.
Sam Walton founder of Wal-Mart, started his first Wal-Mart in Rogers, Arkansas. After college he was hired to be a J.C. Penny manager, and later bought more stores. He then decided to start his own in 1962. He was born in Oklahoma but then decided to move to Arkansas in 1945. The home office of Wal-Mart is in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Johnny Cash was born in Kingsland, Arkansas on February 26, 1932. His number one hit was “I Walk the Line” in 1957. He also had a show called “The Johnny Cash Show”. Johnny Cash made an appearance in a movie called “Gunfight” in 1970.
